Lloyd’s Register (LR) has signed a contract to class the first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) to be ordered for Indian waters.
To be stationed at Jafrabad port for round-the-clock operations, the 180,000-cubic-metre FSRU project will be built to LR’s rules by Hyundai Heavy Industries for SWAN LNG.
It is due for delivery in December 2019.
The new 180,000-cubic-metre FSRU project will help meet the demand for LNG in the region, with natural gas projected to make up 20 per cent of India’s total energy consumption by 2030.
The Indian gas market is expected to be one of the fastest growing in the world over the next two decades. The country is the fourth-largest energy consumer after the US, China and Russia.
